Baptism, Confirmation, Eucharist

Sacraments of Initiation

Baptism Confirmation and Eucharist are the Sacraments of Initiation.

Parents requesting Baptism for their child or children should make contact with their parish office or speak with their parish priest.  Many parishes welcome Baptism parents through home visits, and/or presentations and discussions about Baptism.

A large number of parishes in the Archdiocese of Liverpool use the resource Baptism: everything you need for life, which focuses on engaging parents as their child's first and best teacher.

From September 2016, children in school year 4 will be prepared for Reconciliation and First Holy Communion through Family Catechesis.

Parents (or grandparents and family members) prepare their own children using colourful booklets over 7 monthly sessions in the parish or with the aid of the school and parish.

From September 2016 the Sacrament of Confirmation will take place at the age of 13. Archbishop Malcolm McMahon OP has written a Pastoral Letter explaining the return of Confirmation to the teenage years.

Adults who have not been confirmed should speak with their parish priest.

Jesus spoke to them... 'and know that I am with you always; yes, to the end of time.' (Matthew 28:20)

Parents '...will be the first teachers of their children in the ways of faith.  May they also be the best of teachers bearing witness to the faith by what they say and do...' (Rite of Baptism)
